Introduction and General Background.

The Sailing Programme for the 2011 season combines a number of weekend and long weekend events with two main cruises. This is to provide more opportunities for members to take part and to encourage new or less experienced skippers to join in.

The weekend events will provide a range of easy local cruises which can be combined with other activities to add interest whilst the two longer cruises will visit a variety of ports and places, providing a flotilla style cruise.

Where possible, cruises are planned to coincide with favourable tides. Short cruises are scheduled for a Saturday start to give members who work or live away from Dartmouth a more convenient programme. For longer cruises, considerations of tide, berthing requirements and attending the Oyster Festival in St Cast for example, are given more weight

Participating skippers will be asked to sign on for the event and attend a briefing meeting on the night prior to departure, and hopefully join in the crew supper in the Gun Room, where everyone on the trip can get to know each other. These briefings will include a “plan B” and call signs etc. and a lead vessel will be agreed for each cruise. Options for alternative returns to Dartmouth will also be outlined for skippers needing to get back for work on the Monday etc.
